Update on the African American Congress on Discipleship

by Wayne Haddock

Recently, we hosted the African American Congress on Discipleship here in Norfolk, VA. We had almost 300 present, with attendees traveling across America to be with us. The theme was Individual Discipleship: Each One Of Us Investing Our Life In That Of Another. Overall, the local impact has been tremendous, and several individuals who are ministering in the inner city are now asking for ways to partner with us.

One of the conference activities was an elective where men and women were sent onto the campus of Norfolk State University to conduct Religious Interest Interviews. One group that volunteered came back super encouraged as they discovered students hungry for someone to help them understand the Bible. Since then, several spiritual laborers - some of whom were part of this group - have been meeting to decide how we will begin to follow-up with the 20 students who wanted someone to help them understand the Word. Although this task is overwhelming, together we trust the truth of II Corinthians 12:9: "And He has said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.' Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me."

Your partnership with us is resulting in urban students and residents growing in their understanding of Christ and His love for them. We appreciate the opportunity to be your extension of grace and truth to those separated from Christ. We could not do this apart from your prayers and/or financial support.
