Metro Story: Kansas City

From Dave Gras

Scott and his brother Rich come from a Jewish heritage. Rich lived in a different city and accepted Christ first. When he felt Scott was ready, he called me up, wondering if I would look up his brother. First, we read in Proverbs together. Then, after moving to the New Testament, Scott made a decision to believe in Christ. Later, he brought Sarah, his fiancée, to our home. When we explained the Gospel to Sarah, she too believed in Christ. So the Gospel moved from Rich to Scott to Sarah.

Ten months ago, God touched the heart of Scott’s mother, who had more than once told Scott to never become a Christian. Through the testimony of her sons and their wives, and through circumstances that the Lord used to soften her heart, she has begun opening her heart to Christ.

Sarah called me three months ago to ask if I would go to see her father, Mark, who was dying of cancer. Mark was an unchurched person, but God had prepared his heart as over time he had observed Sarah and Scott’s strong walk of faith. During a 2-hour visit with him, he prayed to receive Christ and was powerfully converted by God’s Spirit. He died 15 days later.

Later, at an informal gathering of around 40 friends in Sarah’s father’s home, I had the wonderful opportunity of sharing with the group about the two hours I spent with Mark. Scott and Sarah continue to influence family members for Christ and are also impacting adults and children in their neighborhood.
