Ministry Story - Faith@Work in Albuquerque

by Karen Warin

Every month at Faith@Work, I stand in front of up to 150 Albuquerque businesswomen and I challenge them to consider how they might take Jesus to work with them. I introduce them to women who are finding creative ways to live out their faith in their workplaces, and we hear their stories. They leave with an assignment; to do something that requires them to step out of their comfort zones and take a risk for God. Then we trust God to work ... and He is definitely working! Let me share a couple of examples!

Pam is one of our regular attendees who just recently took a step of faith to reach out to the people around her. This is her story: "During a Faith@Work lunch, Karen mentioned starting a Bible Study at work and (my friends and I) looked at each other with excitement. ... I was scared to death to step up and organize it because I was afraid of what other people at work would think of me ... Originally we invited 16 other women and men from (the office) to join us in the study. All but four of them responded "yes"! One gentleman agreed to co-lead the study with me and got another male coworker to sign up too."

Pam and her friends are trusting God to do great things as they move forward with planning the study.

At a local bank, another group of Faith@Work women have been meeting together to read the Bible for several years now. Group leader Glena says, "We have come together to study God's word, and to laugh and cry together, but in the end we leave it in His hands. The remarkable part is to see how we have all grown."

This year we're expecting God to do more great things through Faith@Work. Already, I've met with two more women who want to start Bible studies with their friends. God is moving in people's lives and we want to be ready to come alongside Him wherever He is working.

Please pray for the women who are leading these workplace studies. Pray also for the women who want to start new groups; that God will open the hearts of their co-workers to join them! I believe all these women would agree with me that 1 Timothy 4:10 represents our hearts in this: "This is why we've thrown ourselves into this venture so totally. We're banking on the living God, Savior of all men and women, especially believers." Thanks so much for standing in the gap with me in prayer!
