Mark 1:38 indicates Jesus felt a compulsion to preach to many small towns around Capernaum. It seems He was interested in a broad-reaching as well as an in-depth ministry in large population centers.
Likewise, in Mark 5:19, the Gereasene demoniac, after being healed, was directed by Christ to return to a neighborhood of ten villages and spread the news of what the Lord had done in his life.
The mission of the Town and Country Network is to help fulfill the US Navigator's calling and values in rural, small towns and suburban areas. We want to help people apply Scriptural principles to their family, job and personal lives and then pass these truths on to their sphere of influence.
This ministry will target people in isolated rural settings all the way up to population centers of up to a half million. However, our staff may be involved in other side ministries including helping in collegiate, military, church, businessmen and overseas ministries. But we will be primarily interested in people who are a bit removed from the high-powered metro lifestyle and may not always have the opportunity of an exciting, vital fellowship.
The people we often get involved with are characterized by:
- Stability - people are not moving as frequently and their extended family is usually part of their environment.
- Friendliness - people know their neighbors and look out for them. There is a sense of community.
- Family values - they want the family unit preserved and see their community as advantageous in accomplishing this.
- Less Christian activity - the local church doesn't demand a lot of time and there are fewer city-wide activities.
- Slow paced lifestyle - people have more time and like it that way. They moved here to get off the fast track.
The Great Commission calls us to the outermost parts of the earth, including suburbia, small towns and rural areas. Our desire is to penetrate this segment of society.

One of the advantages of small town living is long term relationships. Marcus (not his real name) was a self proclaimed atheist/agnostic who was the real estate agent who sold us our home when we moved to Arkansas in 1992! We developed a friendship as families and enjoyed many meals at one another's homes over the years.
